Fuel suppliers here out of premium. Run on all gas stations with resulting long lines. Many stations are out of fuel now. The only two major pipelines that pump fuel from the refineries in the Gulf all the way up the East coast are not able to pump. I kept my vehicles full all weekend; wish I would have filled up all my gas cans! I'd expect $5.00/ gal. gas here this weekend. Go fill up!!

Heard on the radio this morning that some stations in GA were charging $6.00/gallon! The state is looking into hitting them for price gouging. I figure even if they do fix the pipeline problems, the price will still go up and stay up so I filled the RV last night...$150!

Why are the pipelines down? Is it because of no power or are the pumps under water or is there just no oil to pump?

I'm planning to do it until I need glasses. ;)

Pred - thanks for the chuckle.

Seriously - nobody in the 'Ham lost it last night, and gas prices haven't moved much. Plantation and Colonial Pipelines have both managed to reinstate fuel flow to the Southeast today. Even though it's not 100% yet, there's been very little disruption.

Edit: My only good post of the year, and I spelled "problem" wrong.

Agreed JP...no one up here has panicked, and while the prices are now up over $3/gallon for regular gasoline, we've been headed that way at about $2.70 +/- for a long time now anyway.

Too bad gas prices will never drop as fast as they rise. It also sucks big time to hear that them OPECKER's are making $66.00 on every $70.00 dollar barrel of oil.

This is just the excuse needed to raise the lower bound threshold to $2.50/gal. Gone forever are the days of < $2/gal fuel. :(

Might ought to buy locking gas caps while you can, at least it will deter the "lazy thieves." I bought two today, for my Bronco ($75.00 to fill up yesterday), and for my wife's Jeep Cherokee. Good luck eveyone.

The equilibrium level looks to be about $1.80 for regular unleaded.

Who would have thought we'd be thankful for $1.80 per gallon gas?

I certainly hope prices drop, but I'm too pessimistic to count on it. I believe it is going to take a long time to reach the pre-Katrina production levels. By that time producers/commodity traders will gamble that consumers/economy will have adjusted to the change allowing them raise the bar with respect to what the "normal" oil prices should be.

Just my 2 cents.

Think you've got expensive fuel? In the UK, 'premium gas', or unleaded petrol as we call it, now costs £5/gall, thats about $8 or $9 i think?

The UK is small and everything is close compared to the U.S.....We have states that dwarf the size of the UK...This is the factor that EUropeans forget when they compare their costs...Most of the high price for the UK is tax related as well.

Many people here drive 50 miles to get to work and 50 miles to get back home...that's 500 to 600 miles a week...And alot of those folks are driving cars that get 10 miles to the gallon...We are much more spread out than Europe, so $3 per gallon gets VERY expensive here real quick..

Ever wished you'd kept your mouth shut? I'd never thought about the difference in fuel consumed US v UK, but that is very surprising! The price difference is more understandable now, but I still think our government are greedy. Thanks for opening my eyes a little.
