My bike is all stock except for some extra holes in the air box cover. I ride at sea level to 500-700 feet max. My plugs have been turning black very quickly. I changed the stock 145 main jet to a 142 and moved the needle jet from the 3rd to second clip position. I did all this without removing the carb, just loosened up the 2 clips and rotated the carb. Without running the standard throttle position/spark plug tests for confirmation, she definitely runs better. I get higher and smoother top end. Prior to the change, the power band started to crackle and die much earlier. I also have a 40 pilot jet to replace the stock 42 but I'll wait until I do the spark plug test. Hope someone finds this helpful.

That's pretty much what I ended up with, we basicall have the same bike and location. I did completely remove my air box lid. I still have my clip in the middle position though. Maybe I'll try it in the second from the top and see what that does.
