Hey guys,
I just had a quick question. My car was stolen and then recoverd but i had alot of stuff taken from the car. I had a police report, the report talked about my stolen stuff. I have to send my insurance company a list of the stuff with prices. I'm not sure about what stuff to say was stolen or if i need recites for everything. Has anyone else been through this type of situation before that can provide me with advise?

I had a labtop and an ipod stolen, they both have recites. But I had alot of small stuff such as tools cloths, riding gear, gear bag and much more. Is it worth it for me to put this stuff down on the claim, some of it i do not have reictes for also.

Thanks alot for the help

It will all depend on your insurance policy and how much your agent cares to work with you. If it was there list it but do not over exaggerate what was in there. If it looks like you were running a garage out of your car chances are you'll lose. Receipts are not usually required but if you have them it would help save you footwork figuring out replacements

This happened to me once > I had a custom pair of boots made by the same guy that made Tom Landry's, President Reagan and a list of several other people of the likes. My cost was $750. and it took about 3 months for the guy to make them. (I had money back then :) ) {icked up the boots on Thursday, packed the suitcase for a trip to Vegas the following day, arrived in Vegas and my suitcase was placed in someone elses rent car with all mine & my wife's clothes and of coarse my boots. After my $500 deductable, my home owners insurance cut me a check for more than $1900.. I had no idea there was that much stuff in there but there was. The kicker is that a week after they cut me a check, a hotel in Vegas found my luggage and returned it. The insurance compant gave me the option to purchase back what ever items I wanted to, all I wanted were the boots. I was impressed.

I had a friend who for some reason thought it was smart to have hundreds of cd's in her car. She obviosly ididn't have reciepts, her insurance comapny told her that if she saved the reciepts of the cd's she bought they would pay her back. But it all depends on your insurance policies.

talk about a pain in the kiester . . .

I went thru this right around mid December (yeah, merry christmas). Fortunately, the rig wasn't stolen. Unfortunately, I hadn't figured out which button on my new keyless door locks was the "lock" side. Even more unfortunate, I'd come home from doing a little shooting and had a couple pistoleros in there. Someone hit the jackpot. Thankfully, a good relationship with my insurance agent made filing the loss relatively painless. Notice I did not say fast. Took a good three months to get all my stuff replaced (minus the deductible, of course). Receipts were not necessary, but they helped. Most of the stuff I had, I'd had it too long to have kept receipts around. Of course, you don't want to get too greedy, and you are going to miss some things as you start looking for said items later on.

Another hitch: I was told by my agent that my policy did NOT cover the CD's that were stolen, nor would it cover an aftermarket stereo. This may be something you can change if you alter the actual policy, but I'm not sure.

Most won't cover CD's. Surprised to hear they wouldn't cover an aftermarket stereo. If the ipod is set up to be used in the car it should be covered. If not, probably not. Laptop, could be. Riding gear would be considered luggage, most policies have a small amount of coverage available for luggage. Probably won't be enough to cover what you lost but should help. Like said before it depends on the policy.
