Insurance Co wants blanket Release of Info

Okay, you insurance people,

do I have to sign a blanket release of info authorization form for the insurance company of the guy that rearended my kids and I?

It says that I authorize any doctor, hospital, employer, or other person to whom a signed or photo-copy of this authorization is delivered......

Can I limit it to only information concerning the accident or even put the actual name of who I authorize to disseminate information about myself or my kids?

We don't have anything to hide but I can't see authorizing just anybody to give them MY personal information.

bbb, this is pretty much a standard practice. for example, if you got a neck injury in the accident, they will want to know if you had previous neck injuries, etc. you might try to limit it & see how big of a deal they make of it. do you have a lawyer? if so, you could refer it to him. let me know if i can help.

I'm no lawyer, but my wife was rear-ended last year and needed wrist surgery and her car was badly messed up.

Her lawyer advised her to write something to the effect that only medical information pertaining to the accident was included in the release. She wrote that in on their form letter, initialed it, mailed it back and they never complained.

She had nothing to hide, but we got some peace of mind knowing that the insurance companies and lawyers did not have unlimited access for 'fishing expeditions' that they might use against us.

No, lawman, I don't have an attorney and don't think I'll need one but depends upon how they handle it. I have experience documenting and writing claims for construction changes and extra work so I document everything. So far they have been very cooperative, with the rental car, repairs and chiro so, we'll see how it goes.
