i ride a Sx 125 2005 and i have noticed that without thinking i go up the takeoff of a jump sittting down but when i am in the air i atomatically stand up.. am i doing anything wrong by sitting down at the start rather than standing through the whole jump, or does it just come down to what is most comfortable. cheers

i stand up right as the jump starts its curve up...and i usually give a little bounce right before take off....They call this preload...alot of people don't believe in it or do...but i can get alot higher by doing it then just riding stiff...

The main danger of jumping while sitting is that the bike can rebound, sometime violently, throwing you up, and possibly off the bike.

If you are already doing all you can and can't quite clear a jump, seat bouncing it may give you the little extra you need. If you can clear it while not sitting, you will be faster, fly lower, and get back on the ground quicker.
