hello, new to the forum and dirtbikes and am gonna try to cover everthing and get info bought a 1986 kd 80 on saturday, shifts thru all the gears, fast for a little guy and is fairly fun threw me off on a wheelie yesterday lol but i am more of a trail and general offroad guy and it doesnt have enough power or suspension for me also i hunt and it is loud, so i cant really sneak or jump with it, i would like to know how to get more usability out of it, if i cant i will probly sell, the bad: has a ripped seat wich i might get sewn up, no headlight(did it have one?),small tank dents and the back brake was real good but i changed the tire and the pad fell off so now it is very weak, as far me i am 16 about 5'7 170 and am up in the great northwest=rain 365.
my Q's are:
-what is the diff. between kd vs. kdx
-how do i make it quieter, the exhaust is stock but empty/gutted from old owner
-if i sell what is it worth?
-what bikes should i look for?i like 2 strokes more now and will i fit most bikes?
- is the bike rare?
- get more performance?
- anyone need to tell me anything?
this my first dirtbike, my first 2 stroke, and my first project bike got it for $50 non running as is bill o sale on sunday got everthing working by monday, only bought oil and a tube and it feels awesome fixing it up by myself but i think this bike is not for me but i am gonna try get into dirt biking and i may stay with 2 stroke which is not what i wnted originally.
-sorry I wrote alot and if in the wrong sect. but thanks for your patience and i hope i get good advice and tips

the kd was sorta in between the kx and kdx, they were oil injected for the most part, they didnt have any lights, slightly less power than the comparable kx and close to the same suspension they were good little bikes

thanks for the reply kinda figured about the lights but i have 2 mystery wires coming from a 2nd on/off switch, and i dont think they share the suspension it has the ugly dual rear shocks that will depress all the way going off a curb

On my sons KX-60, with an aftermarket exhaust, you disassemble it and loosely wrap insulation around the inner perforated pipe (which comes out) and slide it back in. If you pack it tight with insulation, but bike ran poorly.

The KX-60 is LOUD with a stock exhaust. The KD 80 might have been as well.
