...before I place my order. with 14 front sprocket, and 52 rear sprocket, I need a 520 length chain, correct? Or am I off a little or a lot...
BTW, i ended up getting steel Sprocket Specialists rear and front, and a DID VM X-ring chain, just wanna get the correct sizes for SURE before I place my order.
Yeah 520 is the grade of chain and that part is correct. The chains all come the same length and you will need to "cut it" (remove links) to the correct length. Good luck!!
Buy a chain breaker. Not expensive and everyone should have one in their tool box! Without one, you have to grind the pins off to be able to break the chain. Don't try to order your chain with the exact amount of links, you may come up short.
14/52 (3.71:1)That is a little tall for me. My 125sx had a 13/50 (3.85:1)stock, I went to 13/52(4:1) for a little more bottom and it works fine.
You may consider buying a 13t front while you are at it. You may want it some day.
I believe 520 is the width of the chain. Mini's will use a smaller 400 series and larger street bikes will go up into the 600's. Grade is usually determined by tensile strength.
