I've got a 1991 KDX 200 and I'm looking for a bit more kick. Has anyone tried to put an engine from a KDX 250 in a KDX 200 frame? Would it be more trouble than it's worth? I'm only 5'9" so I like the seat height on my 200. Even my buddy's '99 KDX 220 is a bit tall for me. Seems like it would be an easy swap providing mounting locations matched. Has anyone tried this? Can anyone lend any assistance?

I havent tried this but i would assume it should fit. I recommend you find someone with a 250 and mesure where the holes are to see if it fits, If it works i might do the same because my bike needs a new engine(major incident has temporarily ended my bikes life but itll be back :p)

Keep us posted on what you do

There are some similarities between the KDX 200 and the 250, such as the swingarm being the same. I never tried to measure to see if this could be done, so I couldn't really advise you. I have seen a KDX 200 frame with a KX 250 engine in it, which is basically the same as the KDX 250 engine, so it should be possible.

exhaust mounting

you might have to make some exhaust mods, notice how the 250 has the expansion chamber hug the engine like the 95 and newer bikes and the muffler is bent to meet up with the lower pipe. where the 89-94 has the expansion go higher, close to the tank inline with the straight muffler

notice the pipe on the 250?

Thanks a ton for all of your help and suggestions. I'm on the hunt now for a 250 engine so I can take some measurements for engine mounting and possible exhaust modifications.
