Kdx250?

I recently bought a 1980 KDX250 for trail crawling and accessing some of the better S.W. Washington fishing spots. This is my first dirtbike, though my mechanical knowledge is fairly extensive. What would be some good modifications to benefit it's use? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Benefit it's use how? a)To make it reliable? b)To make it faster?
c)To make it handle better? d)To update it and make sure it's mechanically sound? e) ?
