Kick starter problems

We just bought a 1987 KX 80 for our son. We knew that it would need some minor work. We can't get the kickstarter to even kick. Or what ever you call it. So we don't even know if the bike starts. It is almost like the kickstarter is frozen or something. Have no clue. We are very new to dirtbikes.

I don't know that much about this particular bike, but it could be any number of things, all of which are going to cost a little bit. Could be a seized top end (piston, hone cylinder, several small parts/gaskets $150-250?). Or, could be a piece from a broken clutch basket ($200-300?) that jammed in the kickstart gears. Maybe a seized bottom end or tranny? Either of which would be $500 or so. Just rough estimates on prices here. Heck, if you're near KC, bring her over and we'll tear it down and see what's up! :)
