Hey,
I'm gonna be getting a new bike some time this summer and, at first, I was set on a XR 250. But now I've read up a bit more on the Kawasaki KLX 300 and I'm thinking that it might be a better choice, considering that the retail on each is identical.

The Kawasaki looks good from the specs: 300 cc four-stroke, liquid cooled, inverted motocross-style forks, more suspension travel than the XR 250, and similiar weight.

Is the KLX 300 as good as it looks? Which would be a better overall woods bike, the XR or the KLX? Which will require more maintainance?

Answers to some or all of my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

both r great bikes ,and i considered both at the time i was buyin.i give the klx the nod, better legs though still need balance, more hop up.both r very dependable.if ur a big guy u'll want at least the 300 if not an xr400 for that matter.the 300 stock is a little dull but i've modded my 300 to my liking and can't imagine bein happy with a xr250 power wise and such.of the 2 the klx has more room to grow i think.

I been on both the KLX300 & XR250, go with the 300. Havn't been on a XR400 but I imagine it'll be heavier.

If you do buy a KLX, I'd recommend a slightly used one. You'll save some money this way & it's possible the previous owner fixed some of the problems that come with the stock bike. www.planetklx.com has alot of info on the bike.

KLX all the way. XR4 is too heavy for me on a day of intense riding. I can usually keep up with the XR4's. The KLX is a great bike. A few simple free mods will really wake it up, and if you want more, there's tons of $$ mods.
