I hope this is appropriate for this forum. If not I apologize.

I am currently using a knee guard, rather than a knee brace such as Asterisks. However, I am planning on getting some Asterisks soon, but am concerned about some discomfort they might cause my kness and wanted to know if my theory of where this discomfort is coming from might be correct and if so, if Asterisks could/would cause the same problem.

I am fairly new to riding - coming up on a year now. However, in the past almost 9 months, my knees have started to kill me. It hurts to squat down, or bend my knee to step up, etc. It is almost like the knee cap is bruised. When it gets sore, I can rub the sore area lightly and seem to make it go away - usually. I thought maybe it was due to incorrect position on the bike, my riding style etc. But I started to thinkg back to when this started and realized it was about the time I bought my knee guards.

So, my question, is this: Is it possible that my knee guard could be rubbing or lightly bumping up against my knee cap and actually brusing it? Or annoying it in some way - possibly affecting blood flow and cutting off circulation? And if this is possible, is it possible Asterisks would/could do the same thing?

I would really like to get a pair of Asterisks for the obvious reasons of protection. But if they could cause a this type of problem, then I have to decide if I want to deal with daily pain/discomfort vs. protection from an all out knee blowout by not having protection from Asterisks.

Ever heard of this before?

Thank you for you time.

JayPak,

I've been told by several people with your same problem that after they switched to the braces the pain went away. There is a lot of "micro trauma" that happens to the knee when your riding, the brace helps tremendously with that. It also is a ton more efficient at protecting the whole knee area from getting the constant little bangs against the shrouds and such, and the knee cup area is more suspended above your knee cap than a standard gaurd. There is also a 30 day money back guarantee on the braces, so you can use them as much as you like and if for some reason you have the same trouble you can send them back for a full refund, but I think you'll find it will be the answer for you.
