Okay, I've never lost one of the dauz(sp) pins that holds the airbox cover on, the way everyone else complains, and I even have an extra. My problem is the coupler rusted out and the pin won't latch. I knocked out the coupler just to make sure and it's toast. New sets are a little over $15 each and I'm not even sure if it comes with all the peices. My question is, if any of you have had this happen, do I go for the replacement or just bolt the thing on?

Jeff,
As well as I like the design of the fasteners, I believe I'd just spring for the new ones. (shrug)

I lost one of those on my last 300E and found out how expensive they were. When I got my new KTM the first thisg I did and still do after every filter cleaning is cover the holes with duct tape in case another one comes loose on me. It doesn't look bad, black duct tape on a black side cover and it beats paying for a replacement.

Someone may correct me if I am wrong, but Summit Racing that deals with hotrod car parts and they had deutz(?) fasteners last time I looked at one of there catalogs and I think they were reasonably priced, but I would have to research it again. I just remember thinking that if I ever needed some, I would get them from them.

The good thing is if you buy a new KTM airbox lid, they come with new fasteners and the price wasn't too bad for the lid when I bought one for my 400 a little while back.

If you place a small o ring over the shaft of the fasterner(behind the cover but in front of the washer)it takes up the slack in the fastner and i never had one come out in over 2 years of racing.
