KTM M/XC Question

I just bought a used 2001 KTM 400 M/XC and have a question about the Ebutton. On the controls there are two buttons, a red one on top and a black one on bottom. There is a small rectangular hole in between the two buttons that has a piece of black tape over it. Is there supposed to be anything in this space on the M/XC?

There's suppose to be a shiny piece of black plastic between them.
