A KX100 is just a big wheel 85 with a bigger bore. They have about the same peak HP as an 85, but they have more power at rpms other than peak, so they are generally easier to ride. A drag race between an 85 and a 100 is going to be tight, particularly if the 85 is tarted up and the 100 is stock. The 100 will be better on trails, because it will have more low end power with about the same mid and top end.

I don't know about the race class - do they have supermini where you race?

100 vs 125 drag race the 100 might stay tight if you are light weight enough compared to the rider of the 125 - the 100 itself is a whole lot lighter than a 125, so really light rider on 100 may have better power to weight ratio than bigger rider on 125.

The 125 will have more suspension travel and bigger tires. There are people who compete against 125s and win on 100s, but in general, the 125 is an equipment advantage due to better suspension.

so my cr85r expert and the kx 100 are about the same thing?and when you say more low end power you mean it would be snapier in the beggining?

yes thats what he means, beginning of each gear that is, unless you know how to keep it in powerband then you dont need to even worry about that.

whats your weight and height?

Keep in mind that if there is no supermini class, then the KX100 would indeed bump up to the 125 class where you'd be racing against 250F's, too. Also, if you're racing amateur level I believe the 2 strokes in the "125 class" can now be up to 153cc. A KX100 isn't going to have near the power or torque of a 153cc 2 stroke or a 250cc 4 stroke.

When I've ridden my daughter's KX100, a big factor is also the larger wheels of the full sized bikes. Even on trails it can be the difference between dropping into a hole or going over it.

If you didn't have a bike or were moving up from a 65cc, the KX100 would make a lot more sense, especially since it has a power valve, unlike your CR. But since you have a CR85 Expert, I'd try to amp it up to get by a little longer until you're ready for the next bigger sized bike.

The others more than adequately answered questions regarding bore and displacement, power, racing rules comparing cr85e vs 100 vs 125. If the information didn't satisfy your question you could start over by completing all these questions on the form below, then posting it in the what bike do I get forum:

http://dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=108916

It may be that you need to think more broadly about what bike to get next.

(You may also want to read this:

and yes, unfortunately, spelling counts. :fft:

im 5'8,120lbs and i ride a 125. you will have more control on the 100 but you might be a tad faster on a 125. it seems like if you choose the 100 class you will be racing 125s anyways so why not try both and see, ask anybody you know who has a 100 and ride it and see how it goes. thats the only real way to find out if the bike is for you.
