I've been out of the dirt bike scene since my early teens... I just bought a 93 KDX-200. It had a rattle and I was concerned, too. Turns out the noise is normal and comes from the "power valve".

Everyone here except me are the experts, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D

We need more info to help you... what do you mean it is coming from the tranny? Does it make more noise when you ride it? Is it when you let out the clutch? Personally I'd stay away from it, cuz $2000 is not that good of a deal for a 98 Kawi. I'm trying to sell my 03 YZ125 for 2300 and it is perfect. I'd probably even take $2000 for it...

...Then again I didn't realize you live in Canada, bike's are more expensive there right?

Try this to help determine where the noise is coming from, use a long screw driver, or socket extension, and place it at various parts of the motor then put your ear to the other end. When you hit the spot, the noise will radiate through the metal. Maybe that will help you locate the source of the noise.

Best of luck,
Boomer
