There is oil leaking from a z-shaped rubber seal on the bottom of the powervalve housing. It's not spewing it out but i do have to wipe off oil that collects on top of the water pump cover after every couple rides. Is this just an annoyance or should i promptly replace the housing seal?

Asuming you're talking about the yz, The z shaped rubber gromet between the pv cover and crankcase is easy to install upside down. make sure it is installed on the right side. Also, you might want to use silicon for windows on both sides of the gromet, Not the hi-temp one because you'll be saying bad things when you try to remove it.
