Sarge doesn't like Mars. He prefers Uranus.

My teacher science teacher printed out that picture! She loves Marvin the Martian! Actually, our class is doing the MSIP thing for NASA! We got picked to go to Arizona, but our school changed their minds about paying for the trip! :(

I have been fascinated by the pictures coming from Mars. I did some surfing and reading and have learned that Mars is somewhat habitable. The temps average about -50f but can get as high as 80 degrees! They believe that humans can live there with just warm clothing and an oxygen source.....no space suits required! There are even groups who believe that it is possible to "terraform" the planet and colonize it!

I suppose it was not that long ago that we thought the earth was flat and did not know that North America existed, LOL!

Since the gravity on Mars is only 3/8 that of Earth, my YZF would weigh only 85 pounds! :thumb: However, I suppose I would need to change my jetting and suspension valving significantly.

On one hand, I would say they've watched Total Recall too many times.

On the other, where would we be without dreamers? Read some "science fiction" of the 1930s-40s. A lot of it is part of daily life today. With the population growing as it is, how can we not look forward to colonizing someday once we have the technology to do it?

Maybe I do read too much sci fi but let me tell you, if they were signing up colonists right now, I'd be first in line. What an adventure that would be.

Time to go back to Podkayne of Mars.

Here is an interesting thought, lock a human up in total darkness, or in a cave, and their internal clock adjusts to a 25 hour day - anyone care to know how long is a Martian day ...... :p

http://www.science-frontiers.com/sf122/sf122p06.htm

The Martian Day is 24 hours and 40 minutes, the human internal clock, 24 hours and 20 minutes ..... strange ...... hmm !!

The Martian Year is 1.88 Earth years (equal to 687 Earth days or 669 Mars days).

Alan, are you saying that humans living on Mars wouldn't live as many years as they would on Earth?
