This is too good to hide in the MX/SX Forum. AMA/JamSports have sealed a deal with Speed Channel (formerly Speedvision) to broadcast LIVE SX racing beginning in 2003. They're gonna throw THREE HOURS of live SX at us per event.

All that remains to be seen is exactly whom we will be watching. It may be Joe Podunk and crew instead of the pros we're accustomed to watching. The AMA obviously has their finger on the pulse of the viewing public. I just hope that the riders will follow the AMA instead of Clear Channel.

What do you guys think? Will Clear Channel wrest the SX stars away from the AMA, or will the AMA prevail?

BTW, here's a link to the story.

I don't care who it is, as long as I get to watch some racing... :)

Watching all the pro's is bad for your ego anyway. Just reminds you how bad we all really suck  I'd rather watch guys that are exhausted, never stand up, can't make the doubles (and don't bother to even try to make them). Much more entertaining. It's like watching the beginner class at any event, much more interesting. Watching a bunch of outta shape guys (myself included) exhausted, doing tank slappers off the big jumps, flying W's, endo's and high sides makes you feel good about yourself.

I'd rather watch TV and feel good about myself. :)

The only bad thing is that we all have to sit through another year of ESPN2 messing up the air times. :silly:

I think if Clear Channel doesn't come up with live coverage for all of their events, this will seal their fate as the "other" supercross series. The top riders will be under pressure from their sponsors and manufacturers to ride the series with the most exposure. I think the AMA my have finally done something right. I just hope the Clear Channel races will allow the fast privateers a place to race and maybe make some money by not getting screwed by the AMA anymore. Just my $.02

Most likely all the factory riders will ride the ama series as all the major factories have a rep on the ama pro racing board. They all had to vote to make this move.I THINK Yamaha is the only one that is not on the board.:D

I really hope that all the factories go to the AMA Supercross. I would hate to see everyone but yamaha go to the ama series that would be stupid to have Jeremy McGrath's team and YOT go to the Clear Channel series and have RC, K-Dub, TP, Larocco, etc all be at the AMA series. I want all the riders to stick together. It would be weird to have no Yamaha's in the AMA Series. I would think that Yamaha would go with the rest of the factories because it would probably hurt sales to be the only factory not in the big series.:think I think everyone will go to the AMA/Jamsports Supercross, and Clear Channel will be more like the minor leagues.

I have a problem though...I don't have Speed Channel on my TV!! It's available, but we have to subscribe to a new package to get it and some other channels. I'm going to have to get my dad to do that.

Right Okie. They're either gone (WFL, USFL, XFL) or the NFL owns 'em (AFL, NFL Europe, Arena ball(?)).

Sadly, I think this will split things up. ESPN will have wider coverage (plus ABC), since a lot of people don't have Speedvision (but they do have FOX).

Clear Channel is big enough that I fear the AMA will be the "junior" series. :( And I think the AMA's bullheadedness is partially to blame.

Either way, 2003 will be an interesting year.

I get a bad feeling about this whole deal, as I think it will be terrible if all the major players aren't in the same series. But it looks like it might come to that.

With Honda, the only manufacturer on the AMA ProRacing Board of directors, pushing the AMA, I don't see them going with another series. That board was after all the one that voted unanimously to go with Jam sports. So that means RC to AMA.

Jeremy Mcgrath is a partner in AST, the new liscensing company that just signed a large, 3-year deal with Clear Channel to market their goods through retail stores. Jeremy has even cut ties with his long-time clothing sponsor, a company he was also a partner in. If Clear Channel is to play a large part in the succes of AST, I don't see Jeremy not participating in their series. So Jeremy to Clear Channel.

I for one sincerely hope this is not what happens. I want to watch the best compete against the best, and anything else will seem diluted. You can even look back on when Indy racing split into IRL and CART and how bad that was for that sport. The INDY 500 is nowhere near the draw it used to be, and since the split NASCAR has taken over as the most popular motorsport.

If the factories do split on what series they run, I think it will be bad for everyone.

This may be a little premature, since this is all just starting, but this just seems to be going bad. People just cant be satisfied anymore with what they got. Just listen to what the AMA and CC are saying, more more more more. It all comes down to money, and when that becomes the main goal then people will do what ever they can to get it. But the problem is by the time they have squeezed all the life out of it, and they are rich, then WE lose.Justlook at how people are, CEO's of Enron making 20 million a year, then they file bankruptcy on the company because it is broke. They got what the wanted though. I used to think the AMA was kinda of a non-profit organiztion,( I understand the employees need to get paid) that they organized racing to benefit the amatures as well as the pros, but I now feel like it is strictly a business, and once again if money is the objective then dont think for a second they are worried what we want. I like the fact that every where you go you dont see advertising crap for our sport, it is not crammed in your face at the store, gas station,Mcdonalds, at Walmart on cheezy clothing, even if you love something so much, too much can be bad. It is still somewhat of a pure sport, and I would hate to see it smeared all over. Just hope that everyone looks at how things can get and then realize maybe it is just fine as it is, and be satisfied. Hope this is in the right forum.

Ok, obviously, I'm an idiot, so just keep that in mind as you're reading this post...

Now that I got that out of the way, What are yall talking about 2 seperate series. I haven't been hanging around here much lately (don't get much online time b/w work/school/football) and I'm totally clueless. So will somebody please clue me in on what's going on, or point me to a thread that has the info in it? Thanks so much.

Two SX series... RC in one and MC in the other... I wonder if MC will be exited to be the fastest rider in his circuit again :)
