Hello, I have a manco thunderbird mini bike, it has a Tecumseh 3.5HP motor. and it has a governor on it, and its missing the entire throttle assembly...which is kinda hard to find, and i was wondering if anyone knows if theres a way of removing the governor (and yes, i know that that increases the risk of the motor blowing, but i know not to rev the hell out of these type of motors lol), or possibly (if jetted correctly) using a carb from a crf50 or 70 type of bike would work...
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Thanks

Yes it should be possible to remove the governor on a Techmseh engine and/or replace it with a carb from another engine it only takes some head scratchin and a little bit of fabrication. A carb isn't designed specifically for an aplicatoin but it picked from a parts book just like the specific bolts to hold an engine together are, basically it's just a part so do a little measurin, test fittin' & eye ballin' and I bet you will find something that will fit.

Yeah, i was looking at my crf50 carb where it bolts on, and it looks about the same size, i took the carb off the 3.5 and it is the most simple carb design ever lol. i dont think the governor could be replaced or removed, i think im going to try to find a carb that will fit....and just hopefully it will work with some tinkering around lol...

So the design of the carb is such that the governor is an intergral piece? Boy how times change, we took it off the Briggs engine of a buddies tiller.

It's always cooler to make something YOU came up with work in a situation like this than to buy a canned solution anyway.

Yeah its almost like a butterfly choke design...just for a throttle...lol
and yes i agree with mini bikes, its always more fun to customize them your own way
