We had a neighbor freind over last weekend. He was riding our PW80, smiling from ear to ear. It's almost a tad too small for him but the mellow power is good.

What's a next step up? The boy is 8 y/o and weighs 80 lbs. He's not affraid of the PW at all but an MX bike probably isn't appropriate.

I'm thinking XR100 but I'm not sure what the seat height is. And these folks are on a tight budget so under $1000 price is a good starting point. Most of the mini trail bikes have crappy suspension. Are there any mellow minis with good suspenders?

Gota' start someplace and a XR80/100 wouldn't be bad. PW80 seat is 25", XR80 is 29" and XR100 is 31" so maybe the XR80 would be a better size? Everything can be upgraded be it suspension, engine or the whole bike as his needs change.

I'm in a similar boat. My son's 8 but he's stretching to fit on my daughters XR 80 so unless he's real long legged or tall, that XR100 might be too big. If he's that serious, run him up to the dealer to see what fits.

Didn't realize the 100s were that tall. We'll have to look smaller, I guess.

What about one of the 110s? (Kaw/Suz) Also, I bet a newer CRF100 wouldn't be too big. They can be found under $1000. I bought a used '03 CRF150 for my wife back in April for $1400.
