Im opening up a can of worms here. Ive ridden enduros for a while now and Ive yet to discover a complete cure for the dreaded MONKEY BUTT :o . I use padded riding shorts and a ample amount of the world famous :worship: Boudreaux's Butt Paste with Baby powder to help . But im missing something here I still have a problem of being very uncomfortable after the gas stop at most races.
The problem I seem to have is not just being RAW. it has to do with the removal of hair the hard way :o . My wife enjoys picking on me and has tried to get me to use her Nair or go for a wax job  this sounds as though this would releive the problem but the advice coming from my wife sounds more like she is looking for ammunition to keep me in line .

List of opions I have :

1. Put up with the problem
2. Wax
3. Nair
4. Shave
5. Breifs under riding shorts ( might help ??)
6. Give up riding ( sell bikes , make wife happy ) NO WAY

OK now to here the deep dark secret never passed down to newbees .....

Try to spend less time on your butt. Stand up more.

I wear spandex bicycle shorts under my riding pants. They enable me to move around on the seat without wearing my a** out.

I posted about this some time back, and got som interesting replies.

I have tried the $40 shorts, bicycle shorts, different types of creams, Gold Bond powder, briefs, shoot, I even tried riding bucknekkid (big mistake, gripper seat and all ).

Nothing seemed to be better than the other for me, so I just learned to stand up more and enjoy the pain tha comes with the greatest sport in the world. :yeehaw:

The more you ride the less you will get. After Trail Bossing last years national I lost all MB issues.

My preferance, baby powder and spandex shorts. No Problem.

Another vote here for the vasoline. I made that suggestion to a guy
at Tiger Creek this past weekend and he just laughed. I was the one
laughing at the end of the race :) Just grease up good right before
you ride. It may feel like you just had a mistake in the undies, but
you'll be glad later.

I have to recommend the vaseline method. I rode about 38 miles at the Tiger Creek Enduro and where I rubbed Vaseline, I felt fine afterwards. As far as hair pulling and rubbing abrasions, I felt better after the race than I normally do after 5 minutes of riding in the back yard.

Hope this helps,

desitin and good padded bike shorts. also, I've notice if there are alot of rides close together, you build up some resistance. also, it seems like the hotter it is the worse it gets because of the sweat, I've noticed less problems now that I have some sahara pants

Skin lube from Kramer. Get it at any sporting goods store. Works way better than vaseline. Believe me I know. Apply before riding not after to prevent the problem from occuring.

Preparation H
Same effects as vasoline, but with a preemptive approach.

I don't know about the Preparation H for MB but I know guys who use it on their arms before a race to help keep arm pump in check. I was as much a disbeliever in this as I was in the vaseline for MB, but they both work!

Here is the secret: Chamois Butt'R made by Paceline Products. Switched from vaseline - Monkey Butt eliminated! This stuff is made for mountain bikers. A large tube has lasted almost 2 years. Try this stuff and you won't be screaming in the shower anymore...

I ride mountain bikes and had a problem until I bought a pair of bike shorts with the built in pad (which feels like you have a load in you shorts) but it works great. I tried them on my mxer and I couldn't get used to it at all. A greasy a$& doesn't seem like it would make for a pleasant day of riding I suggest stand up or ride more until your bum is made of leather.

Bicycle spandex. But remember, bicycle shorts only. Do not wear your tighty whities or boxers under the bike shorts. Also what helped me the most was switching to softer foam. I replaced my foam ('Dale x440) with KDX tall-soft. Still run the gripper. I am a saddle rider and we usually go 50-60 miles of technical/woods/trail each ride. Since going with new foam I don't even notice it the next morning.

P.S. I'm a neandrethal in terms of hair "back there" and don't have any problems with the above set-up.

I stand up to cure it. There aren't any practical places on the trail to apply lube to that area. And if a riding buddy caught you in the act, oh man, you'll never hear the end of it. Applying before the drive out is a no too(3hr trip sometimes). I have yet to slop some grease in that area but I don't think I would be comfortable with it there while I'm sitting in the truck, thinking about nothing, except for my greased up crack! Spandex and standing, yea :thumb:

Its not like you grease up on the starting line. nor in the morning before you leave the house. I never had a problem with monkey butt either with the couch seat on my kdx. ride 60+ miles on fresh ktm foam.....you will be a believer.

does the vaseline still work after you get sand down your riding pants? the only cure i have found is a good pair of mountain bike shorts and stand, stand, stand.

Check out http://www.underarmour.com and get a pair of 'compression shorts'. By far the best riding shorts i have tried. they fit like cycling shorts, but the material is lighter, slicker, and wicks moisture away better than lycra. Also they don't have a chamois/pad, which works great on a bicycle, but is in the wrong place for a motorcycle IMO, so its just a big, sweat soaked maxi-pad.

USE THE BIKING SHORTS. TAKE THEM AND APPLY NEVIA CREAM ALL OVER THE PAD INSIDE THEM. THEN TAKE A GOOD PORTION AND PUTT IT IN THE YOUR CRACK. YOU WILL NEVER GET MB AGAIN. BUTTTT NEVER NEVER NEVER WEAR UNDERWEAR PERIOD, YOU THINK YOUR MB WAS BAD BEFORE TRY WEARING UNDERWEAR. THE MAIN KEY IS THE NEVIA CREAM. SOLD WHERE VASOLINE IS.

Get a pair of Moose riding shorts; choose between padded and un-padded . (padded ones have the padded butt PLUS the hip & tail bone removeable pads) (plug for sponsor) :)

Seriously, a good pair of riding shorts with the padded butt should do the job. If you're currently wearing shorts but still getting MB, then maybe just a new pair is what you need. I just went through that this summer.

BTW, hmmmm,,,,, all this talk about guys greasing up with vaseline just made me realize that I shouldn't shake hands at enduros unless they're wearing gloves!
