Kamas Ranger District chief Jane Cottrell says while public comment will be considered, government biologists and botanists have determined the race will cause no long-term damage to the Lakes backcountry.
"We are entertaining this use because it is allowed in our current management plan," Cottrell said. "It's one of those little gates that no one had tried before. The time comes and you have to make a decision."
