I've been wondering for awhile what skill level the majority of DRN'ers ride at. We (the DRN population) are above average with our respect to mechanically ability and general knowledge about topics relating to our sport. I've intentionally left out age group classes, so if you ride one of those, where would you race if no age class were offered? It would also be nice if you posted how long it has taken you to reach that level.

I checked that I'm a C class rider. On a good day, I could probably do alright in the B class, but for the most part I suck a lot more on race day than I do when I'm practicing. I've been riding for 4 years with a majority of riding time accumulating in the past 6 months. I really haven't been serious about riding and practicing technique up untill last fall.

i started racing at age 27. i raced beginner (D) for about nine months, winning four races in that time. i then moved to novice (C). it took me over a year to win a novice race. shortly after that, i turned thirty and started to race 30+ (no vet skill-level divisions here) and i continued to also race novice until i turned forty. my first ever B race was at dirtweek '01, i was 42 years old. shortly after that, i had a three+ year injury retirement, then i started racing again at dirtweek '05.

I just started racing this January (riding since last September). I race the 125 beginner class (I'm 33 but the vet class is open bike and most of those guys ride 450's, didn't think I should start on that bike). I've won once, finished top 3 many times and hope to be in the C class by next race season.

C class all the way! I do "fall with style", I have been known to do a somersault over a berm :)

Athough sometimes it does seem like I'm just trying to stay on the bike!
