My Daughter's First Time at the Big Track

Siena did well in her first practice at the big track (also her first practice with other kids).

She looped out and crashed quite hard in the third corner, 1st time around - so hard that the axle for the training wheels was bent pretty badly. The bike kind of landed on her but she got right back up and took off.

She wanted to keep riding, so we did. It wore me out chasing her around the new 3/4 mile track at Mason County MX. I rode two sessions myself, but was too tired to continue after miles of chasing her.

Here are the pics - sorry for the links, but I got this error when I did img links ("You have included too many images in your signature or in your previous post."):

I didn't understand how you could possibly be worn out chasing your daughter around until I saw the pictures......

I bet she'll have those training wheels off in no time!

First time at the track with other kids - I wanted to be sure she didn't have any problems.

Those kids on 65s are crazy sometimes - if Siena was on the other side of a table top, they might jump on her - that almost happened once even with me out there. I'm not very tall, but they can see me over it better than her.

The training wheel axle is bent so badly on the one side that she might as well go without it. She can't toucht the ground very good yet, though.

When my kids had training wheels on their bicycles (man, I feel old) I gradually bent them further and further up until they weren't really using them and then I took them off.

Good job!! When is her next ride?

As soon as grandpa gets me the training wheels. . . I don't have a vice at the house.

Later this week in the strip mines, I suppose.

Probably back at the track next Wed. for practice.

Rob, you don't have a redneck vise?!?

Lay a board on the ground, the part on top of it, another board on top of that, then park one wheel of the truck on top of all that.

Hit the training wheel with a hammer, watch it bounce back upward and put a nice dent in the fender. Adjust your swing so that when you hit it again it bounces up and hits your forehead. Give up and take it to grandpa's vise.

I could have figured out something - I guess I could have just waited for her to crash it on the other side . . . ;)

. . . but I kinda wanted it to be a precise bend on both sides - if for no other reason than that it look ok.

Besides, I have my hands full jetting my own bike - and trying to figure out why most of the time the little Z50 won't run for more than 10 minutes without stalling when it's really hot outside (it starts right back up everytime - and yes, I have checked and cleaned the carb twice). And trying to find time to ride. And keeping up with Siena on everything else she's doing. And. . .

I do need to get a vise for my building, though. . .

Have you checked the vent on the gas cap?

It would have to be a really big vise to hold a building. I wouldn't suggest using my redneck vise method to hold the building.

It's not a very big building - maybe 12' x 12'. I think I can find something appropriate. ;)

after 10 minutes it dies then will start back up? Way back when working on jet ski's, the old 550 stand ups would act up like this, we would replace the stator.

Good on her for wanting to ride so much, and you taking her
