My new bike rips!

My new bike rips!! I thought I was going to miss my YZ 250f!! This thing is fast. I just found out today that the guy who owned it before raced it at a national level. He qualified for Washougal (I was there and saw him). I also found out that it is a 2001 YZ125 motor in a 2000 frame with every mod you can think of to the engine, plus lots of mods to everything else too! It is almost as fast as my friends stock 250! Only like a lot lighter. I got a steal on it from the dealer we didn't have to pay a dime infact they gave us 600 dollars:silly: :silly: ! I don't know why?? The bike rips I rode it today! I have a question though. Isn't the chasis the same on the 2000 as the 2001?? I thought the frame was the same. So couldn't the bike be called a 2001 since the motor is a 2001??

I will try and get some pics of it up tonight if anyone is interested. I could also use any info on the 2000/2001 YZ125's that would be helpful. Also does anyone know a good book that can help me learn how to work on the motor for like top-end rebuilds and stuff besides the manual?

Oh Yeah...

The guy that turned it in to the shop is also giving me a pro circuit pipe to go with the silencer (It has dents getting fixed that is why it isn't on it already), and an 80 gallon tub of Redline Racing oil!!:eek: I have got to thank this guy for putting the 2001 motor in a 2000 frame because it brought the price down a lot!!

Dont ya just love getting a bunch of extras with your bike?! Before I got my bike, I would never think in a million years that I would ever own anything FMF, and here I am with a complete FMF exhaust.
And all that oil just makes the deal that much sweeter eh?

I was wondering what kinda of tire is that on the rear? Looks like an M12? Jut wondering looks like a good all around tire.

I think is a Michelin M-12. But now that ya mentioned it, i looked closley, and it looks like the tire is on reversed. Those tires are directional, and that looks like that one is on backwards. As for this topic, i could care less for all the extras on a used bike. A bike is worth the same if it has alot of extras on it or if it is bone stock. You dont get more$$ for the extras in re sale. I'd never buy a bike that has been raced, or totally done up. I know what kind of hell they've been through. I'd rather get a bone stock bike that was barely ridden (kind of like my 96'CR250).Or theres the other option and the best. Buy new and you know what your getting. Nice bike mxracer724, but i wouldn't be to proud that the last owner raced it at national level. My friend bought a professional freestylers bike, and lets just say they look nice, but some things are beat in the inside(things you can see)like lets just say FRAME and other stuff.

I've got to disagree.. An ex-pro racebike has been taken care of. It's been ridden hard, but that's what the bikes are built for. At least you know it was serviced and maintained properly.
With a several year old stock bike you never know how often the guy changed the oil, air filter, ever did the top end, etc.

i agree too. just because a bike is raced doesnt mean that it is beaten or in bad condition. in fact in eric gorrs book he stated that a woods bike is worse than a raced bike, since a raced bike will have less time on it than a woods bike. a race bike is used for 1 to 2 hrs on a race day and some practice time during the week. a trail bike is all low rpm riding for 2-3 hrs at a time 3 times a day for one trail riding day. plus you can trail ride a pos but if you race a crap-py bike then there is a good chance that youll have some dnf's and so the race bike will be very well maintained, especially if the person had a mechanic.

MxRacer wasn't the purpose of getting this 125 so you could sell the 250f for money for your dad's truck? If so why are you suprised you got 600 bucks? Wasn't that what was intended?

But yes that is a nice bike! Do you like a lot better than the 250f? Did you research the pro to see how he did on the bike? It would be cool to have a bike that won some big races

PS, technically it is a 2000, it's like guys who put new vortec motors in there old chev's you can't call an 79 chev with a 01 motor an 01. And to register the bike you go by the vin-number on the frame so it would be classified as a 00, call it whatever it's nice :)

Since it is a national level bike, I would be sure to use race gas. Just a little thing I would probably overlook if I jus bought a new bike.

I have a hard time believing that this kid got a pro's bike, and that he just so happened to see him at wash. I am not saying that he is lieing I just have an experience with a kid that was told he got a pro's bike and it runs like the biggest piece of 97 cr125 trash ever:) You need to watch out for these kinds of guys that say they have raced pro and done everything right. Just to be on the safe side. Personally I would have to go with the post farther back, I dont think I would ever buy a used buy. I would only buy a used by if I know exactly who rode it and who maintained it, like one of my riding buddies, but other than that for sale bikes are off limits! Some are a steal and are a great deal but there's always that chance. + buying a used bike with all the mods that you want to do to it allready on there, then whats the fun of riding and showing off your mods:) :) :)

i have to dissagree to a point. i went to look at a bike that a kid raced and the thing was a total piece. i mean you cant get much cheaper than welding the broken piece of clutch lever back on after it breaks off. i mean a new lever is 15-20 bucks. that really makes you wonder what the kid did when he needed to do a top end on the bike (which he claims he did every month). after i got done looking at the bike i left and went to cycle gear, where i found the bike that i have been secretly drooling over for the last month.i immediatly called the owner and we met the next day and i talked to him and then took the bike out for a test ride. it rode flawlessly.

anyway, the kid raced 80cc bikes for team green for 3 years and then moved up to the 125cc bikes. he raced for a local dealership called manchester honda, formally know as MHR. he raced for them for 3 years with his pro license and rode 5 nationals a year and had a machanic and the whole deal. every bike and part was free and he had to deal with the whole corprate thing as well. now the pro license means you are allowed to qualify and race in pro level and national races. it doesnt necessarliy mean that you have a factory ride and tons of sponsors. the bike that i was looking at was was his bike after he left MHR. he went to college and decided to take a year off. when he came back he raced this 2001 cr 125 as a pro independant. he told me that he race 2 nationals with the bike and then ran out of money for the third, and just ended his season early.

you can tell alot about a person and whether they are telling the truth by how consistent their respnses are. when i first looked at the bike the kid told me all this stuff about his career and what the bike was used for and where it was riden. he wasnt the "drone on and on about the mods done to the bike kinda guy" and that really made me feel comfortable. also when i looked at the bike for a second time ( the first time i looked at it the space to ride it was quite limited) i went to his house and i saw all of his pictures from racing, team green pics and team mhr pics. now about the wholt mods thing. i was looking for a bike that has some superficial mods but a bone stock motor except for maybe a piston. and that is what this bike is. im not sure about you guys but i want to know who does my mods and i want to know the exact specs of the engine. also i want the power curve set to me not the previous owner.

anyway that is just my input feel free to post a disagree with me.

Good post, I agree with most of your points. There are two sides to wanting a stock bike. I agree that it's nice to start off with the standard setup and go your own way.. A modded bike is nice in the way that it often has many parts on it that you would consider buying / drooling over if it WERE stock.
The best of both worlds is a modded bike that includes all of the stock hardware as extras.
I keep a huge list of everything I've modified/swapped/changed on my bike in Microsoft Excel, so that I can give it to the next owner if/when I sell it. I know that I would love to get that if I were buying a used bike.

me too. i have a full portfolio of all my reciepts that will be passed on to the next owner.just a quick point however, i believe you misunderstood me. by mods i meant porting, head mods, cylinder overboring, case mods, and the like. basically mods that are for the most part irreverseable. if they put on a pro circuit pipe and you like a stock one you can just replace it. if they have the cylinder ported and then head modified and the cases altered it would be a pain to try and get those back to stock using epoxy or simply replacing them.thats why i would like a stock motor. i want a bike with a lot of goodies tho, like bars and foot pegs and graphics. just a stock motor.
