Hey all,

I have a 93 XR 600 that I purchased thinking that it had been bored to a 650. At least that is what I was told. I rode it for a few years and it has developed a lot of piston slap when cold. I tore it down and an not sure what parts it has in it. I was expecting a wiseco piston but it isn't. The piston has NM9 cast into the top of it, a slight dish, no valve reliefs and runs in a 100.25 mm bore. I was told by the dealership that NM9 is the part suffix for XR650L parts. The rod has NM1 cast into it which is the XR600 suffix. Both the cam and the cylinder have NH4 stamped on them. That is part of the HRC 628 kit part number. Can anyone shed some light on this set up for me? Is this a 628 power up kit? If so what is that piston from? I would have thought that the power up kit would have a NH4 cast into it, not a NM9. Unless they used the XR650L piston in that kit. Thanks for any insight especially from someone who has installed this kit and remembers seeing the casting numbers.

You most likly have a 628 or a 640. My 93 was a 640 with 11 to 1 comp., it is now a 650 with 10.5 to 1 comp. On the 600 to make it a 650 with the stock stroke you need 102mm bore. I did this by useing a 650 cylinder and puting a 2mm larger bore sleeve in it.
