First of all, hello! I have been researching for the last couple of weeks on dirt/trail/enduro bikes and have found this site very informative. It has also helped me make up my mind on which bike to get.

A Hodaka. :yikes:

Sorry, couldnt resist!

This site is packed with great tech info. Good job! Fast forwarding, I used to race MX, TT, Flat Track and scrambles a very long time ago and am interested in getting back into riding. Mostly trail riding, maybe an enduro, who knows. I find that most manufacturers now days have done away with the odd size bikes. At 48 years old, 6'1" and 220 pounds, a 125 two stroke would be under powered, a 250 may get me into trouble. Same with the 4 strokes. I cant see myself on a 450.

What what Ive seen so far, the KDX would probably fit me well. It doesnt sound lke its a slug, but its no a full blown racer priced at over 6K either.

Im not sure what the dealer prices are yet, but I see just by looking at the MSRP, I could have some cash left over to personalize and perk the bike up some.

Anyhoo, thanks for a great site and Ill be lurking around learning as I go. And if things go right, Ill be riding Green for the first time ever, in about a month.

Welcome to the site

Be sure and go to your User CP and update information relating to your location, type of riding, etc. After that grab a spot on the couch and tell us a bit about yourself. How long you have been riding, what kind of riding you prefer, where you are located, etc. We will do our best to hook you up with some fellow dirt bike enthusiasts.

Again, welcome to the site and shout if you have any questions!

Hey Gary, welcome to the site!

You might want to check out the KTM 200 as well. I have one and I absolutely love the bike for most everything I ride. Great tractable power and light.

Tony, I have been checking it out and want one, but just today, I got the urge to check out the Pumpkin 200sx.

Any thoughts?

Gary:

I am only familiar with the MXC version and the 2001 generation for that matter.

I suggest that you hop over to the KTM / Euro Bikes forum and crank up a new thread. You will get lots of opinions.

The MXC version has a close ratio gearbox and the EXC version is a wide ratio box. I am not sure where the SX falls. I remember hearing about a test that documented that riders change gears in the close ratio box far less than the wide ration box.

My son about matches you in size and he has ridden my bike while deciding what to get.

Hello there Gary. I'm also new (well...back into) to riding and just recently bought an old 1994 CR250 to play around on.

I'm just south of Houston (Clear Lake), and haven't had the chance to go riding since I really don't want to go to the tracks, and I don't know where dirt bike friendly trails are anymore. I'm probably going to go check out a spot near SeaWolf park in Galveston this Sunday. You're welcome to come along if you want to.
