I'm confused. I need to soften up my yz400 for off road and hare scrambles. I've talked to several suspension companies and have been told many things. The biggest diversity being over whether to change the springs or the valves. What's the deal?

I'm guessing but I'd say you are getting different answers because you are not clearly and consistently explaining your problem/preferences. Also, how much time/thought can each "suspension company" give you for nothing.

I recommend that you decide on who you will use to do your work, tell them you want to use them and then have a serious discussion with them. Once you commit to them, I'm sure they will give you thoughtful answers and solutions.

If you can instll them and don't mind tinkering with oil levels and clickers, springs are always the first step IMO. They make a HUGE difference. If you are still not happy, then you can get a revalve and keep the springs you bought.
