How do I check the crankcase oil level on my 1999 YZ125? I just bought the bike and I want to check the oil level. I see the fill cap and the drain plug, but I do not see any obvious sight plug on the side of the case.

Thanks.

Think I found it. A small 8mm plug about half way up the front of the clutch cover. Funny thing is now that I changed the gear oil, the clutch seems to engage much sooner now. I might have to adjust the cable. It will hardly idle in gear without wanting to jerk forward. It did not do this prior to the oil change.

What weight oil did you use?. I've never had a problem with using regular 10w-40 in any of my bikes, but my buddy swears his YZ Clutch chatters, fades, and drags unless he uses Motercycle specific oil.....hmmmmmm

Well, you're supposed to use the offroad motorcycle specific oils because they remove friction modifiers, which are bad for your clutch.
