I'm spending a few days with family down in Newport Beach. I'd like to take a day to go riding. Other than the Elsinore track, where can I go? I'd be into trail riding or riding at a track (so long as a slow guy like me won't get killed).

Also, are there any places where I can bring my son (8yrs old, beginner) to ride without scaring the cr@p out of him?

Too bad Saddleback is gone, that was really convenient.

Elsinore is fine if you stay on the Vet track. Your son can ride the 80 track which is tame as well. If you want to trail ride, you can go to the top of the Ortega Highway at the Wildomar OHV park. It's on Killen Trail, near the bottom. There's a camp ground there also if you want to stay over with him. You can also ride out in Beaumont too, between the 10 and 60 freeway for trail stuff. There's Glen Helen track which is more of a national type too.

What days are you gonna be around, we are trying to plan a ride next Friday?

My whole family was sick with some sort of minor ailment or another. Happily, nothing serious. Unhappily, I didn't feel up to riding (and my wife would have kicked my a$$ if I went riding and left her home with the sick kids).

I guess I'll have to try Elsinore the next time I'm down in O.C.
