No Spark

HI guys. Got a friend that bought a 1997 RM 125.There is no fire coming out of the spark and would like to know where to start checking.Guy does not have to much money so would like to find the problem ourselves and pick up a second hand piece from e-bay.What usually lets go on these bikes first?? Stator,CDI,Coil??? I was thinking of starting from the stator for fire and working my way up.I have a test light and an optemeter ????? lol but need to know what type of volts or ohms i should be getting out of it.What colour wire should i check from the stator.

start with something simple spark plug check the plug cap was the bike running recently??

Preivous owner had the top end done .Bike was running great on first ride then stalled -----no more spark????Deceided did not want to put any more money in it and sold it to friend cheap.Spark plug looks new.

Check plug wire, connection to coil, make nsure the terminal is tight on the plug. Basically, make sure all of the connections are firmly attached where they should be. Then go from there.
