Not sure about my new CRF 230

G

Gino

I am 35 years old-descent shape, 5'-10" and I have just bought my first dirt bike 1 month ago, a Honda CRF 230. I am able to do some entry level track ride, small jumps, but its hard to ride the bike in the mud and in the track itself, I do not know why, may be I am not good enough or not enough power I guess... I would like to upgrade to a better bike, more power perhaps, with a better suspension, I was thinking on a CRF250X, but I want something I do not have to change again and I can grow with. What about a CRF 450 ? What would be the difference. ? I want to use the bike in a track (recreational only not racing) and perhaps some trail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you think?
Thanks,
Gino

.. the diff. between a CRF230 and a CRF450R is similar to the difference between a Beetle and a Porsche 959... two different animals, with 2 different reasons for being. Frankly, the 230 is a play bike, the 450 is a full-on race bike.

If you just started riding, you might want to consider a CRF250R ... great bike, great power (a LOT more than the CRF230), great suspension, easy to ride, Perfectly suited for the track; where as the 230 is not. If you'll do Tracks/Woods equally and Honda is your choice (a good choice BTW :) ), the CRF250(X) would do you well. If you'll do primarily MX, go for the CRF250 (or 450) R.

Well there you go, from the keyboard of a CRF 450 owner.

Okie is correct, the 230 is a beetle (play bike actually).

register, grab a spot on the couch and tell us where you live. We probably have a member nearby that can show you the finer points of riding.

I wouldn't say that the CRF230 is a beetle....I'd say it's more of a pig.

It's really no different than an XR200...which is a descendant of the XL185.

So the CRF230 is like a pig in a pretty dress.

Lights, some suspension tuning. It really doesn't matter which one you choose, but if you do more woods riding, it's nice to have the lights so others can see you coming.

as a beginner that moved from a yamaha xt225 (dual-sport similar to the CRF230) to a crf450r last year -- it is a world of difference -- power is instant and unlimited - brakes are immediate and will lock quickly. throttle control is very important on a crf450 – as in don’t use too much!!!
