Ok after putting on my new sprockets and chain I took it for a nice wild spin down in a field just messing around and when I got back I noticed that the rear brake rotor has scrapes on it from the pads...well they (the pads) are new they have no rides on them other than fooling around in the backyard for 2 minutes at a time. Anywho what would make the pads do this to the rotor could it be dirt stuck between the pad and the rotor ? the srapes around the rotor are located (if looking from the side ) on the top of the rotor stopping surface and on the bottom. The middle has no scrapes. How do you know if its to far messed up ?

Look closely at the pads.
A lot of times people accidentaly end up with both pads on one side of the rotor after re-installing a wheel.

Thanx for your idea I went and checked and its not the problem the pads are correctly installed. The proof to back that up is the scrapes is on both sides of the rotor.

If both pads were on one side of the rotor there would probably still be scrapes on both sides. One side where the back of your pad was scraping and the other were the caliper was grinding. :) Check that nothing else in the rotors path has been bent, like a rotor guard or something.

First what kind of pads were they ,metallic or what .
You could have bad pads or you could have installed the wheel crooked .
you my call me nuts but I take my new pads and sand them in before installing them. I have a small piece of glass and lay a piece of 180 grit sand pappper on it an sand the pads till the contact patch is even on the whole pad. JUST A THOUGHT.
