my buddy has a 83 dr500,he jumped time on it,so he bought all new parts for timing, long story short he has no idea how to time it.

I have done my streetbike a couple of times, the starter gear attached to the crank had tdc marks on it that lined up with cover for the timing gear marks, the cams also had marks on the cogs that you would line up with the head, you install the chain, then count the rollors between the marks on the cams, tighten the caps down, and its a done deal.

my question is is it something like my streetbike or totally different?
also would someone happen to have a link for a engine service manual for this bike? Thanks in advance

If you have any exp on japenese 4st stuff the cam/crank marks are self explanatory.
OTW, you are going to want to get a manual if these kinds of questions are occurring.
I could tell you one dot here two dots here but in the end the real details are cam cap torque and cam chain tensioner adjustment.
If the motor jumped time it has some worn out parts, and retiming it is a band aid of the shortest fuse.
