How totally TIMELY this post is!! I was just having this conversation with my 66 year old father on Saturday, who has been riding his Four-Trax all over the hills for umpteen years without a helmet. Turns out he DOES ACTUALLY OWN a helmet afterall. Maybe after I e-mail him this post, he will see the light and start wearing it.

PS Dad: 66 isn't THAT old............really!!

If your dad starts wearing his helmet because of this post It would make me happy for starting this. I have been kicking myself for starting a thread like this cause its never any fun, but that would make it worth it.

Nephron - I know where you're coming from!

Just this past weekend I took my 4 and 6 year old boys riding with a friend and his kid. So here's 3 kids on 50s, my buddy on his CR250, and me on my KX500 riding a small, purpose made track off to the side. As my buddy and I decide to sit back, relax, and enjoy the sight of our kids racing each other around this track, some moron decides to park his car right in the middle and get out his R/C car. As the kids continue to ride he gets this R/C car closer and closer to the jumps and berms that WE made and finally asks one of the kids to not ride so close to his R/C car. The child was understandably upset and came over to tell me what this fool had said.

Well, that really lit my fire! Instead of pounding this guy's nose for him (admittedly, I have short fuse when it comes to my kids) I decided to go for a little ride. A few shovels full of dirt/rocks/sand from my back tire convinced this fool to go and play with his toy somewhere else.

Some people!

Nothing against all those with R/C cars, I have one or two myself. I just don't get them close to other people or other vehicles.

BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! That is hilarious and it would be really funny if they weren't going to get killed in the near future. I think when you buy a quad you must get part of your brain removed free of charge.

There where some (older) guy's at the trail head last weekend talking
and one sead to me, We make that loop in three hours how long dose it take yall. i told him 30 min. he thought I was joking! These guy's had no gear what so ever and from what i could tell didn't need it, they go so slow it's not funny. I'm at the point that if somone wants to rid without gear, go for it.
I'm 38 if you where woundering.

Your skin too, will thicken with age.

ghunter--lol. Exactly. There are a few R/C cars around here, but again, they stay far away. Far, far away. :)

That's IF they survive their normal seatbeltless DUI driving to the riding areas.

PS. see if you can get a close up, ask them to smile, I'd like to see if they have any teeth in there. If they are missing some it will fit the stereotype even better.

We should all be concerned with goon, er, quad riders riding without safety equipment. In California we are losing riding areas at a swift pace, and drunken goon riders are part of the reason for it. In the Glamis suit the greens mention the DUI and helmetless rider problems. This is just ammo for the other side, and the BLM & US Forest Service are all to eager to just shut it down & be done with it.

Ignore it? You can't, because it effects all of us in the end.

I took the camera with me today, and even though I didnt expect any goons at this place (its a moto track) I was looking out. All I found was evidence that not all quad riders are goons. Check out this guy on this banshee, this is about a 40ft tabletop and he was over jumping it. There were almost as many quads out there as bikes, and everyone of them was the "real" kind and they were all wearing gear, thats the way it should be.
