Ok guys need some help. My dad has an '86 CR 250 that he bought new in '97 and quit riding it in about '99. This thing is cherry. It has been kept in a dry garage on a stand all it's life. I was out messing with it the other day and got it running with out much. With X-Mas around coming up I was going to have the local shop guy run through the forks and shock and get them back in line but...... But the perosity (SP?) has taken over and the side case is leaking from anitfreeze setting in it over the years. The '86 CR has two side cases on the right hand side, I just need the outer one and an new water pump inpeller. Has anybody found a good place to pick up some used parts for older Honda's? I don't know if he'll ever ride it again, but I would at least get it back going, if he doens't want to ride it then I'll drain the cooling system and put it in mothballs until........well when ever. Also if anybody knows where I can get some parts for an late 70's MT Elsanore 70CC mine bike would help too. Couple of us guys from around here are building some bikes to race in the heated barns this winter. Thanks for the help guys.......

I have an 86 CR250 that has the same problem; I was unable to find a used cover and just bought a new one from western Honda for around $160. You may need to tear down the top end to make sure the coolant passages are not full of crud also the radiator may have to be professionally cleaned. I was told by Mylers in Utah that this corrosion is caused by the coolant reacting to magnesium. Honda has changed to aluminum since the 90's and this is no longer a problem.

I like EBay for used parts. Keep in mind though, that used 1986 parts are just what you have! They may not have much life in them.

I have an "86 CR250 that had exactly the same problem with coagulated antifreeze and corrosion through the side case, destroyed pump impeller, etc. I had to replace the impeller witha new part, but the case part was way too expensive (dealer wanted $330!) so I puttied the multiple perforations over with JB Weld epoxy for less than $4 dollars (all major pitting was on the inside, so could not be seen outside). Two yers later, it's still intact. Now I change antifreeze and distilled water every year!

Yes, I've already did the JB Weld on the outside of the cases but did you put the stuff on the inside too????? Thanks for all the web sites, I'll check them out and let you guys know where the deals are.
