Pipe Compatibility for '01 to '98 300

I have a 2001 300 E/XC and desperately need to know if my stock pipe will fit on a '98 300 M/XC. Has anyone ever swapped stock pipes between bikes of these years or something comparable (i.e. '01 to '99). I thought they were the same but after looking in the FMF and Pro Circuit catalogs it appears there are different part/order numbers for those model years. Unfortunately, I don't have both bikes with me.....just the '01, so it's not as simple for me as just going out in the garage and seeing if it will work.

I have a desert race tomorrow and really need to know.
