Does anyone know where I can get som 45.acp ammo in a 200-230 grain +p varient. The only +p's I have seen for the 45. have been 165gr, which are a bit light for my tastes.

Senior kX, Can the 45 acp be reloaded with a RCBS rock chucker rifle press? If so I might have to buy a set of dies.

No problem on the "Rock Chucker". I use to load 9mm, .45 colt, .357/.38 and .44 mag all on my Rock Chucker. Great presses. Maybe not the fastest way to do pistol stuff, but its very rewarding.:)

I like the sub-sonic stuff myelf. I use to reload in the spare bedroom and test fire in the crawl space............

try a search on cheaperthandirt.com. If they don't have it, they can tell you where you can. The name says it all.

Looks like I am going to have to track down some Hornady 230 gr JHP-XTP @ 950fps or maybe some Federal 185gr Hydrashock +p's. Thanks guys.

I keep Federal 185 Hydra-shok +P in mine. 1100+fps and probably won't take out Joe and Thelma next door. Can't say as much for the poor SOB that catches the initial round though.

Corbon.

The 200gr +P actually made my hand bleed (from my AMT minigun).

I load a clone of the Corbon on my Square Deal for practice rounds.

Some day I will get a .45 ACP, but for now my Glock 22 is my personal defense weapon. I still have some .40 cal 180 gr. Black Talons, but usually I keep it stoked with 155 gr Speer Gold Dots. According to FBI tests they found they expanded to .84' with 10.7" of penetration in ballistic gelatin. I was using 135 gr. Corbons, but they had fierce recoil and muzzle blast and if I shoot them I need a stiffer spring. Another down side was that my groups were twice the size of any other ammunition I shoot.

Hey all,
Just bought a Kimber Royal today. Shoots better than I expected. Accuracy and handling are great!
Plan on doing ammo tests after a few hundred rounds of loosening up.

Has anybody tried any glaser(?) type rounds.:debil:

And you can get the XTP in a 300 grainer..... Oh ya... .44 caliber 300 gr. 1350 fps..... Great bear gun. I always liked the gold dot too... I hear that for self defense you always want to use store bought ammo..... The Glasser stuff is safe and really does a number on the bad guys.....

Hey there Pilgrim,

You can get Speer Gold Dots in the following loads (part number follows):

45 Auto +P (50/pack)
185 gr. Gold Dot Hollow Point 53964
200 gr. Gold Dot Hollow Point 53965
230 gr. Gold Dot Hollow Point 53966
200 gr. Gold Dot Hollow Point +P (Nickel) 53969

Why not just whack them with a 230 gr RN and let them bleed?
;)
The beauty of the 45 is its lack of dependance on bullet performance.

All I could find on the 'net in stock was the 185s at midwayusa.com -

CCI Gold Dot Ammunition 45 ACP 185 Grain Hollow Point Box of 20

MidwayUSA #: 401884 Vendor #: 23964
Price: $12.79
Compare at: $13.49 Status: Closeout

They also show a Winchester product in stock; looks like the replacement for the Silvertip:

Ammunition >> Handgun >> 45 ACP >>

Winchester Ammunition 45 ACP 230 Grain Supreme Expansion Technology Box of 20

MidwayUSA #: 461818 Vendor #: S45
Price: $12.49
Status: Available

I was considering getting some corbon 115 gr +p for my 9mm, however I was told by my local shooting range that the velocities from the company were very inconsistant, varying as much as 400 fps over ammo in the same box. I was told some went off like a .22, others like a .45. Just very inconsistant, they did use chronograph testing. Currently have 124 grain Hydrashok, but haven't tried the corbon personally, anybody have any first hand, long term experience with this ammo?? How are the Winchester silvertips??
