Plane down in NYC!

There is a 767 down in NY, unknown whether from terrorism or not. Landed in Queens, NY from JFK airport.

Correction: I heard it was incoming from the Caribean (sp?), not an outbound plane from NYC. This makes me worry more that it could be terrorism, as the airport security may not be as good from airports out of the US. American Airlines again I think.

No point in jumping to conclusions, they have no idea what happened. People are saying an engine fell off.

If I'm not mistaken, historically just after T/O is when most mechanical failures take place. The media is just hypothesizing the hell out of this right now. Let's wait for some concrete info here before everyone starts jumping.

People are saying 2 planes collided, possibly a smaller plane hit the passenger plane,

Looking at a pic on TV of the engine on the ground, in front of a Texaco station. Catastrophic engine failure apparently major wing damage when it came off. It's such a bad deal, but not terrorisum, per the FBI and the FAA.

I'm at work & can't comment usefully, but can say that (as per the Anthrax reference before), STATISTICALLY this is terrorism until proven otherwise. I don't blame the media at all. A jet engine falling off does not prove this isn't terrorism. It could have been blown off, or Bubba Bin Laden could have loosened a few screws.:mad:

Per MSNBC:

..."Bush administration officials said it appears there was an explosion aboard the plane and that the FBI was attempting to determine its source."

The report goes on to state that the focus is on mechanical failure.

Although the report does not indicate that it is an act of terrorism, it sounds like the possibility is not being totally discounted either.

In either case it is a terrible tragedy.

Mayor Guilianni at the crash site. They are reporting no survivors. Plane hit houses, businesses, etc.. Wow, another horrible scene. Who will get on a plane now? Not me. Gods speed to the victims.

Well... I'm from Santo Domingo, where the plane was coming to... In my country right now, this is a really bad situation... At the time at was at the university, and they went to pick up a girl whom I know, that her mom was in the Flight 587... it is thought that there were about 200 dominican people in the plane... We have to pray for our countries... right now I really know what it is like to be in a situation like this... God Bless the Dominican Republic, the United States and the rest of the world....
