I have a 89 kdx that just recently started to make a loud rattleing noise when i pin it........right before this happened i went through a deep water crossing, the oil level lens went a whitish grey.....i thought it might be water in the oil so i changed it an the oil came out an odd shade of grey, new oil in an the oil level window is still white.....has this happened to anyone else? am i royally screwed?

As no one else has replied I thought i would try!

It could be you still have water in the box (oil + water + cloudy emulsion) and that has turned your fresh oil into an emulsion again, it does not take much water to do this. If you change it a third time and still have a problem then it is more likely the water in the box is getting there via an internal leak from the cooling system. Check the fluid levels in the cooling system - are they going down? It might just be a coincidence you spotted the way u did but it sounds like the water came into the box via the breather. I would replace the oil a third time and see if that sorts it. If not look for an internal cooling system leak. Hope this is of some help!

I got water in the oil of an early KDX and had to flush it several times to get it all out. One party told me that it would be good to dilute the crankcase oil with kerosene to help the flushing, but to get it out after a quick run. Cheers John
