i was riding yesterday on my kx 250 and all of a sudden it just dies, we tried kicking it and trying to make it run for a long time, finally we put a new plug in it and it fired up. the only thing is, it isnt the correct plug for it, it still ran fine but wil this hurt the bike? i think i foulded the plug somehow, i am runing a BR9 ECS in it right now, Could i run a hotter plug so it wouldnt foul as easy?

You can try running a hotter plug, but be sure it is the right sized plug for the bike. Anything a little off can possibly score your piston and cause future problems that may not persist right at this very time...
