Anyone use power, energy and/or protein bars? If so which ones are good. I've always learned that carbos before you exercise and protein (plus some simple carbs (like sugar) to help absorption) after you exercise. I recently went to Costco and found these Premier 1 protein bars. They have around 31 grams or protein and were cheap, like 22 bucks for 24 of them. Ok, I'll get to my main question, these are not energy bars and are used after I lift weights or ride for a long time. What are some things or some bars that you can have before and/or during the exercise to boost your energy?

i usually eat a couple power bars before i ride, but i dont know if they really help any. i started using creatine serum when i work out and i've noticed a huge difference in energy, and also i barely get sore anymore. I'm not sure if it would help with riding, but i imagine it would.

I use power bars for quick fuel and to fill my stomach before I ride. I also go into the store and pick up different ones to try. Power bars are good, a lot better tasting than in the past, BUT you've got to drink with then! 10-15 oz of water to get then going. By the way that's a down fall, you block up, if you know what I mean!
I also drink only cydromax fuel replacement drink when I race/ride hard. It keeps you energy level up there. I give it to my 10/13 year old boys too. Keeps brain fade away late in the race.
This system has worked for years with me, as a off road rider and also as a bicycler.

One thought - always look at the main ingredient in the bar. Powerbars are actually loaded with high fructose corn syrup - not the best sweetener.Basically a candy bar with protien added. There might be better ones out there for your desired results. I have found by staying away from corn syrup, junk food, anything with white flour, milk, cheese, etc., and sticking with lean meats, veggies, fruits that I have alot more energy and don't need a quick boost from a bar or snack before I ride. ?? But that is my program - try different things and see what works for you. JUSt read those ingedients! You might be suprised
