That's awesome news Terry. It's good to hear the initial testing was so positive.

Hey Guys.

Here is a video that my friend Dan took during our test at El Mirage dry lake. It was one of the last runs and we had a bushing starting to seize up in the gearbox making it hard to get the bike into high gear. Since then, it has been changed over to the later model needle bearing set-up in the gearbox.

Thanks for posting that Rich.

In the video, you can see where I had trouble getting the bike into high gear. That is when the car caught up. There was a bronze bushing in the gearbox that was starting to seize and it did completely seize on the last run destroying the lay shaft and the K/S spindle.

Thanks to the generosity of Bill Getty from JRC Engineering, we now have a later model needle bearing set-up in the gearbox. The original, bronze bushing style was never meant to withstand the HP and speed that this thing has.

Bonneville is here!!!

I just watched Terry's run; wow! I can't believe this is really going to happen. It was a long time coming, but because of Terry's dedication and the giving nature of all those who joined him it is finally here, and I thank you all so much  . After being down with the flu for a week this video really raised my spirits :) ! I won't be able to get away from work to join in the fun on the flats, but my husband Mike will be there to represent me and share in the excitement. For those who knew my dad you surely know he is grinning from ear to ear... An update on the AMA Hall of Fame nomination: my dad was not among the inductees for this year :( . But I am not giving up and I will resubmit his name again this October and every October until he gets the recognition he deserves... To those who knew my dad and loved him and to those who just love motorcycles as much as he did, there are not enough ways to say thank you to all of you who have gotten involved in the Bonneville run. Good Luck to Terry and Team Macias as they fly on the flats, Pam Macias Caspers

Thank you Pam. It was your dad and the values that he instilled in all of us that is making this happen. Thank you very much for letting me be a part of of such an exciting project. I'm just a passenger. A mere test dummy. Your dad built the engine and like most of the engines he built, it rips.

Welcome our newest sponsor, The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians.

If you are in the Temecula area in So Cal be sure to check out their Casino and Resort hotel. Also, the steaks in the Great Oak Steak House are the best. They raise their own beef cattle.

Back from Bonneville.

WooHoo! What a blast. :)

We didn't break Danny's record. In fact, we didn't even come close. Bonneville is like no other place I have ever raced. The conditions are a huge factor. The atmospheric pressure and humidity on Monday was the same as being at 7800 feet altitude. That will sap horsepower like you can't believe. The salt was wet and you could feel the drag on the bike. Plus the fact that without a front fender, you couldn't see where you were going due to the salt spray on the visor. Had to wipe my visor about every 3/4 of a mile down the course. Fortunately there is a big ol mountain at the end of the course that you can aim at and there really isn't anything to hit.

We lost 14 mph somewhere between the El Mirage test and
Bonneville. Of course, all of the teams were complaining of the same problem. We ran 117mph at El Mirage and could not get over 103 on the salt. The conditions got better as the week went on and the salt got drier and became packed down.

I was truly humbled by my team members. A group of guys that I have known for over 40 years came together from all over the country and worked like a well oiled machine. Some from as far away as Florida. I can't thank you guys enough and I couldn't have done it without each and every one of you. I am a lucky, lucky man to have the friends that I have. :worship:

I got to meet DRN member George from Littleton Colorado and it was like we had known each other all of our lives. After talking, turned out we have known each other for many years. Thank you George it was my pleasure.

Thanks to all of my sponsors and supporters, Van Leeuwen Enterprises, JRC Engineering, Titanium Metallurgy, IMS ShirtWerx, Pechanga Casino and Resort, Classic Restoration, Superior Office Service, 2Twenty9 Photography, James J. Hill, Rich Rohrich, Dan Jones, Paul Benedetti, Dennis Kanage, and Michael and Pam Caspers. Sorry if I forgot anyone. Special thanks to my wonderful wife Peggy for putting up with all this nonsense after all these years. Love ya babe.

Truly a humbling experience from day one. Don't know what the future holds for right now. Busy getting the salt out of every nook and cranny. We proved one thing though, Danny Macias is still THE MAN.

Thank you all.

Terry Morairty
Team Macias

The Team. From left to right. John Bommarito, Dan Jones, Vince Zine, myself, George Nachtsheim, Kansas Annis, Paul Benedetti. Missing from the photo, Mike Caspers.

I am very sorry to have missed it. It is a testament that Danny must have been a great enough friend to inspire the effort you put forth. It also speaks quite clearly about the kind of a friend that you are.

Terry, you are one of the best and I am quite proud to claim you as a friend, as I'm sure Danny was, too.

As you can tell by the smiles on all of our faces, Bonneville was a great time!
After all the years that had gone by I got to meet Terry again, what a guy! The last time I remember seeing him he was sweeping the floors at Bellflower Triumph service dept. back in the '60s. The rest of the team I met for the first time, a really great bunch of guys. I'm sure that Danny would have been proud of the effort that Terry and the rest put forward in this endeavore.
As they say, you can't win 'em all --- and --- there's always next year!

I want to wish you all a very sincere congratulations on an awesome team effort. I am very sorry I missed this. I feel like I let a whole team down! On the "plus" side, I was sicker than a dog all week, so I would have been miserable had I gone. On the other plus side, I managed a high B on my Econ test, which surprised even me (it's a much tougher course than I ever imagined it would be).

So proud, so thankful

Like John Lennon said, "life is what happens while you're busy making other plans"... although my dad's record wasn't officially broken, (unexpected piston boring :whoa: ), the record for friendship and effort were surpassed beyond all expectations! To those who gave so much of themselves to this project: I know my dad would be proud of those friends he already knew and thankful to all the new people he would have called friends. Terry is still just shaking off the salt and he's already talking about making a return run to Bonneville next year! Who knows? Just want to say " thank you Terry" and thanks to everybody who participated. I can see by the  smiles in your group picture that you had a great time. I'm sure my dad :boss: is smiling, too...always enjoy the ride, Pam Macias Caspers
