Front isn't as important as the rear I feel. I run 12 in the front and about 4 in the rear. If you go too low in the rear, you might spin the tire though, make sure your rim locks are tight.;)

Having tire pressure below 10psi is asking for trouble. A tire needs to have proper (inflation) shape for straights and corning. 12 -15psi will hold the tires shape. Especially the front tire needs to have it shape for making turns. An under inflated tire will lose its form and handling will deterioate.

I think that when riding in deep sand (the kind we have here in Florida and that Southwick sand) handling isn't much of an issue. Because no matter how much air you've got in your tires, your bike isn't going to "handle." I think elk is going for the "traction" aspect, which the air pressure will effect. Less air=more traction ----- to an extent. I personally wouldn't run 4psi, more like 9 or 10 in the thick stuff. If the track has anything harder than those sugar granules, I'll add 2 psi or so. If I'm in rocks and roots, you can bet I'll have 15.
