just had lunch with one of my friends who works in another area of the "Tech Industry" looks like his company is downsizing. Makes me kinda worried about how long we are going to have to tough this out and if my company will weather the storm. Things have been pretty much routine other than everyone tightening the belt but my company is a vendor and when other telecom companies suffer it affects us also.
I wish all of you in the boat with me luck! Certainly affected my chance at a new CR450F :(

I'm with ya.

We've had our salaries frozen for about a year and a half now. Plus, I'm not getting any overtime since Feb. Essentially, I'm working for 10% LESS than I was a year ago. Luckily, there have been no layoffs. And luckier still, I am the one guy in my department in my specific field (testing). I'd try to find another job but then I'd probably have to actually work for a living!:D

I hear you load and clear. I am waiting to find out how we did for the 1/4. We have had 3 minor RIF's so far this year across the US and they closed the site I work in, except for about 25 of us in marketing. 150 engineers bit the dust http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=7332

I just had to take all of last week off without pay. I still don't know if I will be layed off or not. They are taking things one day at a time, I hate not knowing how things are going....
More than likely, they will cut our hours ....glad I already bought my KTM!!!

Im in the same boat as Big Lou. My company is not that large and we have taken layoff. All bounus went out the window about last X-mas and pay rasies were suspended as of may( the end of the Fiscal year when evaluation and pay rasies are handed out). There is not much work coming down the pipe and they have asked for poeple who want to take a reduction in hours down from 40 to 32 unitl december to fill out the forms and do so. I sure hope it pics up soon. I think it will take at the least a year to ride it out.

Things are not looking so good here in MI either. The mold shop I left 3 months ago just went out of business.:( They were a well established company, been in business for over 20 years. That has been the story for a couple of other shops around town also. Fortunatly I fell into a shop that has work through Jan. May be next year I'll get my new 450F.

Been out of work since the end of June from one of the Big Five consulting firms. My telco company client was too busy asking what everyone wanted the internet to be. I saw on the news today they are laying off another 20k workers. It will make about 50k lay-offs for them since the beginning of the year.

It's not friendly out in the job market right now. There is a glut of talent and the salary ranges are going down as a result. I will be really happy if I can salvage a 20 percent cut when my next job comes along.

The recent events have only amplified and exagerated the situation. Perhaps it is time to affect a career change and slow down a bit...:think

My company is going to lay off about 50 employees tomorrow. I am a supervisor in a manufacturing plant that builds aircraft engine parts. With the airline industries in trouble and people afraid to fly it is already having an affect. I should be safe for now, as I have 15 years with the company. My company is trying to get jobs from the companies that wont survive the down turn as well as get some new contracts from the defense side of things which should be picking up with the recent occurences. But who knows how it will all work out.

They are cutting our hours as of 10/15 ,but nobody has drove a plane into my place of business. All things in their proper perspective. Hang in there all, it is but a moment in our long life .

Sandbar, NY
reduced hours or get laid off

Thats the prob here. The owners say they will either have to have more layoffs, (34 people in the last 18 months), or reduce hours to 35 per week. Personally, Im looking for another job. I seem to be making less money the past three years. Maybe a thousand or three per year. It sucks. At this point, I would rather get a severance package, and look for something else, than continue on this downward spiral of less $ every year.
BigLou- Our salaries have been frozen for 4 years now. Time to move on. :)
