Iv'e got a 99 PW80 Iv'e been working on for the last month or so. I got it not running and put a new piston and rings on it as well as a bunch of other new parts and rebuilt the carb. Since the oil pump was supposedly not working right I went ahead and disabled it and am running mixed gas like iv'e read about a bunch of guys doing.
At this point it won't run except with the choke on...with the choke on it starts and runs but dies immediatly when I turn the choke off. My theory is that since it is now drawing gas mixed with oil thru the same main jet that it was designed to draw just gas thru it is effectively running lean. I tried a 130# jet (the largest of the three that Yamaha lists for this bike) to remedy this but it did't help the problem.
My question is, have any of you guys that have disabled the oil injection in order to run mixed gas had the kind of troule i'm talking about? Does anybody have any ideas as to what else could be causing this?
