On the CR, there is a bearing lock ring on the disc side of the hub.
When the bike comes from the factory the lock ring is staked to the hub...there is a small dimple put in the metal between the hub and the ring to prevent it from winding its way out.
Each time I have replaced bearings I have put a new stake in the hub. But now the threads are getting messed up.
Does everyone else re stake the hub, or would red locktite work instead?

Peer.

The trick is to drill the dimpled area out before removing the lock ring. Take a drill bit a little larger than the dimpled area and drill down until you have drilled the dimple out. When you dimple a thread, it mashes the thread down and if you try to remove it without drilling it out it will drag the mashed area across the good thread and damage it.

Red Lock-tite would probably work, but you will have to heat the Lock-tite to remove the ring. Red is for threads that you don't want to take off. I would just re-stake it in a competly different area.

Just my $ .02 (Considering the exchange rate between Kalifornia and the rest of the U.S., you just got about a 1/2 a cent worth of info.) :)
