hello all,
I was wondering how much play (up and down movement) is acceptable in the swingarm on a bike. I'm working on my project Honda CR and I noticed that with all of the weight off of the bike there is a slight amount of up and down movement if you grab the swingarm and lift. There is no side to side movement so I'm guessing this would be a linkage bearing problem if anything. Every bike I've owned has done this and I'd appreciate some insight. Thanks in advance.

The Crs use a heim type bearing that is small for its load and develops play fast- its hard to say how much play is unacceptable-if it feels similar to a new Cr then dont worry if its twice as much -get the wallet out.

Marcus is right on. Have a look as you move the swingarm. I think you will see the movement at the top and/or bottom of the shock. Even with new bearings, there is generally some play.
