Rebuilding '87 KDX

Well, since I haven't really serviced my KDX since I bought it 3 years ago, and winter is slowly approaching I've decided to bring it back to like new condition. So I'll probably be on here with lots of questions.
My first is in regards to the frame, How did it come from the factory? Was it painted silver or is that just the raw metal finish?

Painted silver. There's a picture of a nice '87 in the "Reader's Rides" section of justkdx.dirtrider.net, that may be the one you're thinking of.
